Carbon Studio presents Reach The Clouds — a VR climbing adventure that is the first game to use eye-tracking as its core gameplay mechanic. Available exclusively on Meta Quest Pro, the game lets players grow branches on a living tree with the power of their gaze and climb them all the way to the clouds.

What is Reach The Clouds VR?

Reach The Clouds is a VR experience that blends physical climbing mechanics with innovative gaze-based interaction. Players throw magical seeds, direct their gaze at a chosen spot on the tree, and branches grow in real time exactly where they look. Every playthrough is unique — because every player creates their own unrepeatable path.

The game was built to showcase the potential of eye-tracking technology as a full-fledged gameplay mechanic — not just a UI add-on.

The GAZE System — gaze control in practice

At the heart of Reach The Clouds is the GAZE system — a proprietary Carbon Studio mechanic that uses the built-in eye-tracking in Meta Quest Pro. The system tracks the player’s gaze position in real time and generates new tree branches based on where they look, creating climbing paths.

The process is intuitive: throw a seed, look where you want — and climb what grows beneath your gaze. Additional gameplay elements like breaking branches, small dragons, and special fruits that modify seed behavior keep every session full of surprises.

Eye training potential and lazy eye therapy support

Beyond entertainment, Reach The Clouds opens interesting possibilities in eye training. The mechanic requiring precise gaze control and maintaining fixation on specific points in 3D space can support eye muscle exercise.

Particularly promising is its potential in the context of amblyopia (lazy eye) — a disorder affecting 2–3% of the population. The immersive VR environment naturally engages both eyes, and the game format is far more motivating than traditional eye exercises. Of course, Reach The Clouds does not replace professional therapy — but it may serve as an interesting complement.

What does the demo include?

  • One immersive vertical level — from the base of the tree to the clouds
  • Two types of magical seeds with different growth effects
  • One fruit type that modifies seed behavior

The demo showcases the full core of the gameplay: gaze control, physical VR climbing, and interaction with a living, player-responsive world.
